Dear Reader,

I started my own small business website (quit-smoking-stop.com) back in 2002 with no technical knowledge and no clue about how to run an online business.

Today, my website receives over 1000 new visitors almost everyday and averages over 100,000 page views per month. It is one of the highest ranked, privately owned, UK sites about smoking cessation topics in the search engines and it competes with the likes of the NHS and other government websites.

How do I make money from my website? I write about topics related to my website theme (quitting smoking) and sprinkle in some advertising for which I get paid - handsomely.

I have never spent any money on advertising, have negligible business outgoings and now spend less than four hours a week maintaining my website and answering emails. BUT - I did learn the hard way, through trial and error, which cost me years of time (spent on learning the ropes) and in business that equates to money.
